In 2013, the global fragrance market was estimated at nearly $30bn, led by Brazil, the US, Russia, France and UK. Growth was driven by high fragrance usage in these countries, as well as the growing prestige market. In Brazil, penetration of fragrance is especially high, with more than nine in 10 consumers owning and using fragrances.

In France, usage of fragrance is also very high, with 90% of consumers wearing EdPs and EdTs. In the US, perfume penetration is much lower. However, the US fragrance category continues to rebound from the steep declines it experienced during the recession, and in 2013 it reported growth. While the highest sales were generated by Brazil and the mature markets, Asia and Latin America were home to the fastest growing markets. Brazil, Chile, India, Indonesia and Vietnam registered the highest CAGRs over the last five years.
