This global annual market overview will provide you with an in-depth review of the key issues in the global sports and energy drinks market through 2013 as well as our forecast for what will happen in 2014 and beyond.

The energy drink segment has found itself in the hot seat during the past two years, as regulators and even retailers in the US, Australia, the UK and numerous other countries took issue with caffeine content, and consumers brought lawsuits against energy drink-makers. The segment has continued to thrive, however, with energy drink volumes growing in all of those markets, at rates that are the envy of other drink categories.

The United States is the world’s largest energy drink market, at more than 1.5 billion liters.

But its per-capita consumption rate of 4.9 liters per person falls far short of some European and Asia Pacific markets. Consumption of sports drinks is divided into the US and Japan and the rest of the world, with those two countries drinking considerably more per capita than other countries.

Despite sports-loving consumers in countries such as Brazil, sports drinks have more work to do to connect with consumers to reach the consumption levels of the US and Japan.
