The Balkan countries have undergone a substantial period of progress since the late 1990s, as governments embraced capitalism, leading to lower unemployment and wage increases. For the time being, owing chiefly to the global financial crisis, the outlook for the Balkans’ outbound sector looks fairly weak. With the region facing rising recessionary pressures for at least the next three years, demand for outbound travel is set to see a considerable slowdown.
