The use of bathroom equipment tends to three major markets, namely the housing (public and private) construction sector, the commercial construction sector and the replacement/refurbishment sectors.
The construction industry has a reputation for being highly cyclical, and generally the growth or declines tend to exaggerate specific GDP development. In the historic boom/bust years this was very evident, and while some argued that the cyclicality of the market subsequently declined, this only reflected the more even GDP development prior to the latest economic downturn. Consequently the economic difficulties caused by the financial sector collapse had a marked impact on the output of the construction industry. In total the prospects for the construction industry are now very strong, having improved as 2013 progressed.
Certain sectors are significantly influenced by governmental policy with respect towards public spending, and while this has, in the past, often not reflected economic activity, (thereby giving sectors that appear to cushion the overall development), the recent economic turmoil has been of such magnitude that the government has been forced to reduce public expenditure irrespective of political policy.
