In 2015, and continuously over the past few years, the US remains by far the largest colour cosmetics market globally, nearly three times the size of the second largest market, China. Although not in the top five, Korea’s sixth place is noticeably high, considering the size of the population. South Korea is a strong innovation market within Asia and its influence is spreading rapidly across Asia and the rest of the world.

In local currency, the top five fastest growing market in 2015 were Indonesia followed by India, South Africa, Turkey and Poland. Among the top 10 best performing markets in 2015, China has a noticeable. China, which had traditionally a low penetration of make-up, is slowly embracing a more made-up look while still favouring a natural style.

In terms of new product launches, this continues to be dominated by the two categories of lip colour and nail colour, which accounted for over half of total colour cosmetics launches in 2015. The top 10 claims are also fairly unchanged from year to year, with long lasting being the most important, followed by brightening/illuminating.
