In-salon Hair Services - UK - September 2019

Covered in this report

This report covers consumer usage of and attitudes towards the following hair services provided within barber shop and hairdressing establishments:

  • Cuts (trimming and re-styling)
  • Blow drying and styling (including up-dos)
  • Hair colouration and lightening
  • Conditioning treatments and masks
  • Permanent/semi-permanent re-texturising treatments (ie Brazilian blow-dries, ionic hair retexturizing (IHR), curling)
  • Hair extensions
  • Male grooming and shaving
  • Hair consultations

“The in-salon hair services category is expected to show a 3% rise in market value in 2019 as added value and out-of-hours services encourage bookings. Whilst consumer confidence is up, an uncertain UK economy driven by Brexit could see people cutting back on ‘treats’ such as salon services. Expense is already a barrier in professional services, suggesting that the industry can do more to offer pricing, and payment options for those on a range of incomes.”
– Roshida Khanom, Category Director - BPC
