Description

Healthiness and flavour need to come together

Sugar reduction is a key issue in society and will play an increasingly important role for the soft drinks industry going forward. However, sugar-reduced/-free products still need to be further optimised in terms of taste and naturalness. Added vitamins/minerals can also boost health credentials.

Premiumisation will strengthen ability to compete

Aside from new recipes, flavour innovations will need to focus on the quality and provenance of selected ingredients. Ethical credentials can help highlight a premium positioning. However, they have to be authentic and credible in order to win consumers’ trust.

“The category has the potential to grow 7% in value by 2024, if innovative solutions regarding sugar reduction, sustainability and taste can be found.”

Annika Janicke, Research Analyst – Food & Drink
