The Germany Music & Other Audio: Streaming & Podcasts Market Report 2022 identifies consumers’ attitudes towards physical and digital audio media, the impact of increasing digitalisation on the industry, and the impacts of COVID-19 on the Germany Music Market. This report covers the online music streaming market size, market forecast, market segmentation and industry trends for the Germany Music, Podcast and Audio Market.
Digital media subscriptions and purchases have grown significantly. Use of free media platforms such as social media and online newspapers also experienced growth but were impacted by reduced advertising revenue. Print media, however, was hit hardest by the accelerated shift to digital.
The shift towards digital music continued with strong demand for both advertising-supported and paid-for subscription streaming services. Despite shop closures, online retail continued to provide access to physical music with reliance on album sales and downloads rising as live music events were cancelled. Nonetheless, sales remained in decline.
Financial limitations caused by the pandemic and budget shifts to in-person leisure activities as restrictions ease will limit spend on in-home media. However, advertising revenue will grow again as the economy recovers, but print media will continue to be negatively impacted by an accelerated long-term shift to digital media and online music streaming.
Streaming services are continuously expanding user bases, with several looking to attract music fans with higher quality audio experiences. The physical music market will continue to decline, while shortages in the vinyl market provides challenges for smaller artists and labels.
Long term, more people will get accustomed to using different free as well as paid-for digital media platforms. Consumers will also have a greater appreciation of the value of tech and media in their lives, making them more receptive to new trends in the Germany Music Streaming Market.
Higher ownership of improved quality speakers and headphones will see CD and studio quality audio become more commonplace on the online music streaming market. Platforms such as Spotify will look to evolve their offering to include more additional paid-for content with live streams, exclusive podcasts, and increased community content.
