Software - UK - February 2016
“Software is undergoing two huge shifts. The first is affecting the delivery model, with the cloud increasingly dominating software delivery. Licensed SaaS continues to replace purchased software, which is not only fundamentally changing the finance model for the software industry, but also increasing software’s capabilities.”
– Terry Leggett, Senior B2B Analyst
This report addresses the following key questions:
- How will the market develop over the next five years?
- What will be the key market drivers?
- What industries offer the best prospects?
- Will software as a service continue to impact the total market?
- Which products will benefit most from end-use market trends?
Software sales strengthened prior to 2015, with this attributed in the latter part of the review period to the improving economy and the growth in cloud applications. While the cloud continued to grow strongly in 2015, this was offset by reduced demand for traditional software, partly stimulated by the variety of equipment used and the continued trend away from PCs to mobile applications. This represented a reversal of the long-term growth trend that overcame the previous flat economic conditions as companies increasingly sought cost effective and efficient methods of working.
This report is concerned with software sales in the UK. Software is the collective term for computer programs, which are instructions in code telling a computer what to do in response to specific user inputs.
