Slow travel can take place anywhere, and it does not need to involve travelling large distances. In principle, it can take place from the moment a traveller steps outside of their place of residence and embarks on a journey that may be to a destination only a few kilometres away. However, equally it could involve travel to a destination on the other side of the world. Nevertheless, slow travel is largely characterised by shorter distances, low-carbon consumption and a greater emphasis on the travel experience.
