Japan is blessed with a diverse and attractive countryside, vibrant cities, well-appointed traditional and Western-style accommodation, a highly efficient transport network – in particular rail, and is well connected internationally by most of the world’s leading airlines.

There is little doubt that tourism will grow in Japan over the next decade at a rate that will match that of the East Asia/Pacific region as a whole (potentially at around 8% per annum). However, it will probably need to revise its growth targets when the dust settles on what is likely to be the most expensive natural disaster on record.
