There was a small increase in the number of uninsured US consumers from 2017 to 2018, due mainly to the extinction of the individual mandate, or Shared Responsibility Payment, through the ACA (Affordable Care Act). Uninsured rates still remain low, however, while the majority of the US population gets its health insurance through their employer. An aging population will call for insurers to take on more medical claims, while healthcare costs continue to be far higher than other health-related costs for consumers.
