In Europe

Ethical and smooth. Coffee brands have put the innovation spotlight on ethical human claims, as COVID-19 sensitised consumers to the plight of others. Additionally, as consumers show an appetite for more indulgent coffees, there has been an increase in launches with smooth texture claims and decadent on-pack language.


In Asia

Flavours and textures. RTD coffees in Asia have seen a surge in flavour innovation, as brands reacted to the consumer appetite for coffee shop-style indulgences. Meanwhile, an increase in creamy coffee launches in APAC coincided with the dalgona trend for whipped coffees, which gained global publicity.

In the Americas

Premiumisation and functionality. Whole bean coffee is the focus of premium innovation in the US, as more consumers trade up to ensure a higher quality consumption experience. And with health a bigger priority for many consumers, there has been an increase in RTD coffees designed to support everyday wellness needs, eg with no added sugar, with added benefits.

Coffee brands are innovating around indulgence and sustainability, as ready-to-drink (RTD) brands cut sugar and add healthy boosts.
